The CIM Pitch is a National Competition that involves all studying members at university, it encourages budding Marketeers to shine. In a team of three, you are tasked with the challenge of pitching a marketing strategy to a panel of judges. Each year universities around the UK choose their finest marketing students and enter them into the competition. It was great to hear that Heather had been chosen to represent UCLan as part of their team.
The pitch had to be 3 minutes in length and still cover all the information that you would put in a 30 minute pitch. There are set criteria the pitch is marked on and there is little margin for error. This year CIM made it so that your pitch submission was done via a YouTube video. This meant that every piece of information needed to be included with no opportunity to receive questions from the judges to further explain your concept.
When presenting to an audience there are key things to keep in mind, such as eye contact although when presenting to a camera the all of the techniques change. The balance is difficult but when we heard the news that Heather and her team mates had made it through to the final we knew that she’d got it just right.
The national competition was at Business Design Centre and the crowd Heather’s Team Innov8 were pitching to was 250 and included the other finalists. Heather described the pitch itself as “an amazing experience and a brilliant day. The work that we put in definitely paid off. We got lots of positive feedback on our pitch from the judges and the audience. One of the most uplifting moments was when the Waitrose Marketing Director came up to congratulate us on winning the competition. I wouldn’t have even submitted without the skills and confidence Magma gave me! Thank you!”
We are so proud to have Heather as part of our team and for her to achieve such a high accredited win from the CIM proves how talented a marketeer she is.
