The 6th November saw the return of the monthly PHPNW meetups after having been put on a one month hiatus for the conference. I spoke on “MySQL Binary Logging” and conducted a whirlwind tour of the possible practical applications for the seldom used feature of MySQL. Switching on binary logging is very straight forward, and the most obvious application is replication. Even if you don’t intend to implement replication, once you know about binary logging, you’ll wonder how on earth you lived without it. To my surprise (and relief) relatively few of the attendees had used it. I’m also quite pleased that we managed to spark a debate on master-master replication; both the benefits and the pitfalls.
